Preliminary HBT studies

Jerry reported the results of his preliminary studies of Bose-Einstein Correlations (BEC) at the EIC. (**) BEC are a subset of Hanbury-Brown Twiss correlations (HBT) by which one can study the size and shape of the source that emits a given hadron. A possible application in e+A collisions is to study the Lund string dynamics and measure how the string tension is modified in the nuclear environment. His results can be founf here.

While Pythia can reproduce the BEC at ZEUS, they don;t give any at EIC 3+60. This is strange because preliminary measurements by H.Hakobian suggest a large asymmetry at CLAS-EG2. Some suggestions:

  • Increase the statistics of the simualtion to confirm the absence of correlation
  • try at maximal MEIC energy
  • try at EG2 energy

On the theory side:

  • is there a correlation between the relative momentum Q_12 and the source size?

It was also suggested to look into the difference in longitudinal vs. transverse size of the Lund string.

Jets

Harut played a bit with Pythia, and found that the leading hadron at EIC gives a good indication of the direction of motion of the parton from which it fragmented, and that this should go at a large enough angle to be detectable. He would also like to play more with jet reconstruction. for this we will ask for M.Ploszkon's help.

Harut also suggested to ask Mateusz to give an informal phone lecture on "Jets for dummies" so we can understand better the issues involved.
